Family Councils - “In a gentle way, you can shake the world.” —

Mahatma Gandhi

Who Are our Members

Our members consist of:

Family Council Members

The primary members of Interior Association of Family Councils are Family Councils of LTC facilities in the Interior Health Authority. Family-led Family Councils are poised to observe and have insight into what is currently working well, in long-term care, and what is not.

Representatives from our family-led Family Council members will participate in a regional family councils network, to discuss common issues and solutions with health authority representatives.

To thrive and grow, our association also needs the experience and support of individuals who no longer have a family member in care. These are our Ambassador members!

Ambassador Members

Ambassador members are individuals who no longer have a Family member residing in long term care, but who want to continue to advocate for improved quality of life and quality of care in long-term care; perhaps cognizant of a possibility that they, or others they know and love, might some day end up in a LTC home, and realizing that what they encountered during their experience is not what would want for themselves, or others, if they could make change.

Alternately, Ambassador members may wish to share their lived-experience to make a difference improving conditions in long-term care. Such persons may work or have worked in long-term care, volunteered in long-term care, or been a member of a Family Council at some point in their life.

These individual Ambassador members bring the benefit of lived-experience to support and mentor our Family Council members, and our Board of Directors.

Interested in this movement, but not a resident of the Interior Region, there are active Regional Associations in other Health Authorities of British Columbia, who are members of the provincial group - Independent Long-Term Care Councils Association of BC.
